Spring Break 2006

Base Camp - Spring Break 2006

This was the very first time to use my new JEEP TENT!  This thing is by far the best tent I've ever had for a "Base Camp" style tent!  It's HE-UGE!  It has a large bedroom area with divider (I took down the divider, opting for the larger bedroom/family area), and 2 "closets"!  The adjoining room made a great "study" for me to write.  The temperatures this time of year were very cool, making for a chilly afternoon nap - NOT complaining here!  I LOVED IT!  This JEEP TENT has wonderful ventilation!   If I could find another one just exactly like it, I'd buy it!  Two of these would make for a WONDERFUL BASE CAMP facility!  .

Spring Break 2006

We had a wonderful time during "Spring Break" in 2006!  We took three teenagers with us, and two youngsters!  My cousin Chris, also a Jeep owner and avid believer in the camping/4-wheel driving thing, went with me.  He was a wonderful help.  We became the "cook masters" of the Base Camp!

One night we dined on fine cooked steaks over the fire (he cooked these - did a WONDERFUL job!!) and one night we enjoyed my camp version of Jambalaya .. a special cajun rice dish with over-the-fire cooked Earl Campbell "Hot" sausages.  These are their very best when cooked over an actual campfire!  The ladies joined us on the last night and a full camp "clean up" took place prior to their arrival! Folks, even the firewood was stacks and quartered in neat "squared-off" piles of firewood

Throughout the trip, we had rains off and on - not frequent, but occasional enough that the boys scavenged long poles from tree limbs and made tent poles. We used a large tarp, and the next thing you know we've got a "mess tent" all ready to use - rain or shine!  I made notes of things that we needed, should have brought, should not have brought, and would do different.  We learned a lot!  One thing ... for only 2 adults, I really didn't think we'd drink that much coffee!  But when the kids tasted our camp coffee (fire-roasted Starbucks with Eagle Brand condensed milk) it went "fast"!

A big plus with me was the ability to zip up the windows during the rain from the "inside"!  AND, the 2 large windows in the bedroom were slanted facing downward.  No rain came in and we could leave them open for viewing and ventilation.  Only horizontal rain would ever come in these.  If you are reading this and you own, or know of someone who owns, a JEEP TENT (the red topped one with the 2 closets) have them get in touch with me.  I'm buying!

Great "Fixin's"! We ate real good and had "great fixin's" to boot!  We enjoyed my special pancakes one day, and then another day we had fried eggs, bacon and toast.  And it wouldn't be the same without my special "camp coffee"!!

and a WONDERFUL "CREW"! We had a "great team" of folks going, including my wife, Jane, and our younger son, John!  The boys were the best crew I could have hoped for!  I plan to do it again next spring!!
